Environmentally Friendly Products

Sometimes, these items can seem like a more expensive option... however, most of them are worth investing in and can save you money for the long term, as well as help the environment.

Reusable Water Bottle - 500 billion, YES BILLION, plastic bottles are used worldwide each year. Only 9% of them are actually recycled, which is pretty scary! One major way that you can help to reduce this number is by using a reusable water bottle. You can get them from most supermarkets, and many have better features than plastic bottles now such as keeping water cool for up to 24 hours! They vary in price and material such as bamboo and metal and a great alternative!

Pegs - Now this may seem like a strange one to include, but most of us own pegs to hang our washing out with. Most plastic pegs, usually go brittle and snap, are also not usually recyclable. A few better options are to use either wooden pegs or stainless steel ones!

Shampoo & Conditioner Bars - One way to embrace sustainable living is to use shampoo and conditioner bars instead of buying them in plastic bottles. These are not only better for the environment by reducing the amount of plastic, but also tend to be more cost effective. One shampoo bar lasts for around 80 washes, 1.5x longer than a bottle! They are also much more convenient when going away, whether that's for a weekend or a week away, they take up less room and don't impact liquid use when on a plane.

Other amazing ways you can reduce the amount of plastic you use includes using reusable shopping bags, and paper/metal straws instead of plastic ones.

Other things that you can do from your home include switching off the lights in rooms that you aren't using and taking a shower instead of a bath. You can also reuse some of your water, for example using vegetable water to water your garden instead of chucking it down the sink!

If there is more you would like to do, check out the below of things you can do in your free time:

  • Volunteer: local environmental charities are always appreciative of volunteers! Why not see what you can get involved in.

  • Litter pick on walks: Dog walking? Running? Or just getting some fresh air, why not take a bag with you and pick some litter up on your route.

  • Share/Donate: If you can, spread the word about supporting/helping the environment, or contribute a donation big or small this can help massively.
